ESCAP’s role as a regional development arm of the United Nations Secretariat is to support its membership, through analytical, normative and technical cooperation, to respond to the development priorities and changing needs of the Asian and Pacific region.

The contractor is expected to assist the Public Information and External Relations Officers in the Strategic Communications and Advocacy Section (SCAS) in strengthening ESCAP’s visibility across the region by drafting, reviewing and tailoring written content for traditional and online platforms. He or she is also expected to assist SCAS in preparing background research input and scripts for promotional materials as well as providing support on other outreach activities.

Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the External Relations Officer, the contractor will perform the following duties:

• Conduct background research on a range of regional sustainable development issues and ESCAP thematic work areas to prepare media talking points and other communications materials;

• Prepare content for weekly and monthly ESCAP newsletters;

• Draft and editorially review ESCAP press releases, blogs, thematic stories and video scripts/messages;

• Prepare weekly social media plans and comprehensive social media packages for ESCAP’s main social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Weibo, LinkedIn) including drafting content and coordinating with substantive divisions as well as interns/consultants for materials;

• Provide assistance in tailoring op-eds for placement in key regional and national media outlets;

• Carry out other duties as assigned.

*All materials developed during the consultancy service remain the property of ESCAP. The Consultant will not be recognized within the work produced.

Requirements

Education: A first-level university degree in social sciences, communication, journalism, multimedia, arts or related fields.

Work Experience: Experience in communication, journalism, public information, social media production or related areas. Experience in international organizations is desirable.

Languages: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
