Org. Setting and Reporting

ESCAP’s Corporate Innovation efforts are led by an inter-divisional team that promotes internal innovation activities to shape the organization’s culture, help reshape ESCAP’s products and services, promote greater cross-collaboration among Divisions, and expose personnel to digital tools, Human Centered Design (HCD) and Design Thinking methodologies. The team is staff-driven, flat, non-hierarchical, cross-collaborative, and operates under the leadership of ESCAP Deputy Executive Secretary.

This consultancy is located in the Division of Administration but operates at the organization-wide level under the supervision of the Office of the Executive Secretary. The incumbent reports directly to the Innovation Team members.

Responsibilities

In close collaboration with and under the supervision of the Innovation Team, the Corporate Innovation Consultant brings in its technical knowledge of corporate innovation strategies to help shape ESCAP Innovation action. The Consultant is responsible for supporting the design and implementation of ESCAP corporate innovation activities and training programmes, including:

  1. Design and implement innovation activities and training programmes that foster a culture of innovation, build capacities in Design Thinking and Human Centered Design methodologies, and support the organization in delivering new and better products and services to its stakeholders.
  2. Support ESCAP in innovating its knowledge products using digital tools to increase use, user-centricity, and user satisfaction.
  3. Support the Innovation Team in enhancing engagement and outreach through varied communications materials and channels.
  4. Support the Innovation Team in coaching project teams on how to integrate Design Thinking and Human Centered Design into their products.
  5. Support and continue the innovation mapping exercise that was launched in July 2020. This activity will include the development and implementation of data collection strategies, interview with ESCAP personnel, data analysis and reporting.
  6. Organize innovation events and competitions within the organization (Innovation Day Award, Innovation Labs, etc.)
  7. Support innovation monitoring & evaluation activities to measure progress and performance against annual KPIs.

Requirements

Education: University degree in Innovation, Economics, Information Technology, Communications, or other related field or other relevant subjects is required. Certificate course/Masters in Innovation methodologies and approaches is an advantage.

Work Experience: At least 2 years of professional experience with conducting/supporting corporate innovation activities and guiding client/teams from ideation to project implementation (MVP, etc.) and strategic development is required. Practical experience of working with various target groups in solutions mapping and developing products from ideation stage is required. Proven experience in organizing innovation events and/or training programmes (hackathons-like events, open innovation challenges or similar) is required.

Languages: Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required.
