Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in the Trade Policy and Facilitation Section, in the Trade, Investment and Innovation Division. The incumbent reports to the Chief of Trade Policy and Facilitation Section.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Trade Policy and Facilitation Section, and overall supervision of the Director of Trade, Investment and Innovation Division, the incumbent is required to perform the following functions:

• Researches, extracts and compiles basic information and technical data on specific programmes/projects and related topics and issues.
• Assists in monitoring developments/issues on subjects or areas assigned by collecting, selecting, analysing and compiling materials from multiple sources, e.g., relevant databases, the library and the Internet.
• Prepares a variety of reports, presentations, tables, lists, graphs, charts and/or diagrams for information and review by senior officers; Prepares abstracts/bibliographic descriptions for inclusion in documents, articles, books and publications.
• Reviews, stores, classifies, and maintains relevant computerized databases and websites.
• Collects, organizes and disseminates relevant UN and media information.
• Assists in the organization of international workshops and other meetings to disseminate research findings and policy related recommendations.
• Takes notes and drafts executive summaries of meetings.
• Provides guidance/training to new/junior staff.
• Performs other related work as required.

Requirements

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. First level or higher university degree in economics, law, international business, business administration or related areas is desirable.

Work Experience: A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in collecting and researching data across various areas of social and economic development or related area is required. Experience in organizing international workshops and events, including communicating and arranging travel of participants, is desirable. Experience with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system (SAP, etc.) is desirable. Experience in the United Nations Common System or international organizations is desirable.

Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
